10 Mother’s Day Gifts for the Active Mom

Motherhood is not for the weak! Let’s chat about some practical gifts that active moms will love from the perspective of a women’s health physical therapist!

Yes, we love chocolate, flowers, brunch, and jewelry, don’t get me wrong. But oftentimes, we have a hard time prioritizing our health without feeling selfish and guilty.

Why is it so easy to buy our kids new shoes/workout clothes/sports equipment and bring them to athletic events, but we can muster up the funds or make time to buy a new workout bra or program… This is where we need a little help from friends and family to give us that nudge.

Here are a couple ideas to get you started:

Dumbbell Set

These are totally worth investing in so you can workout at home because let's be honest, it is tough getting to the gym after having kiddos. This allows for a good resistance training session during naptime, playtime, or anytime you can carve out some space for you.

Resistance Bands

This type of resistance keeps things simple and you can travel with them which is an extra perk! Getting a pair of short and long ones can be beneficial depending on what type of workout you are doing.

Workout Program

Moms have enough going on in their brain, why would you want to do more thinking and come up with a workout? Make it easier by following a plan whether its going to a class, an app, or some sort of written program specific for you!

My current favorite is the Expecting & Empowered workout app built for busy moms that are pregnant, postpartum, focused on building strength, enjoy yoga, and even running.

CRZ Leggings

No mom will turn down a new cute pair of leggings to workout in! These are a great and affordable option.

CRZ Bra

After all of the bodily changes with motherhood, I would say bras (okay jeans are tough too) are the most challenging to commit to purchasing. I am pretty sure I even have a sports bra from highschool somewhere in my drawer. So, I give you full permission to get a new one that fits and supports!

Yoga Mat

We could all use a little zen in our life, which is why this yoga mat would be a great addition to a home gym. (It can double as a baby playmat if you’re feeling creative) This doesn’t mean you have to go all in on becoming a yogi, but it provides a place to rest your body and mind.

Foam Roller

Ugh, sore muscles can really be a pain, and having a foam roller can help ease some of these aches and pains. It also can be a great tool to work on mobility to help keep moms keep up with their kids

Massage

I feel like this is a self-explanatory gift that has so many benefits. Being a mom, the stress of carrying the mental load can take a toll on the body and we tend to hold and carry that stress with us each day.

Weighted Vest

Although moms are used to carrying their little ones around, this is another great option to build strength, endurance, and bone density while enjoying a stroll with family and friends.

State/National Park Pass

As an outdoor and park enthusiast, this is a great gift of experience that truly the whole family can benefit from. You could pair it with a “weekend camping trip getaway” or “tubing down the river”, or whatever your family enjoys doing outside.

I hope this sparks some ideas into giving a very special mom something she will love and continue to keep her active to keep up with her littles, or not so littles anymore.
